The Beat was founded by singer/songwriter Paul Collins in 1977. Paul Collins had formed The Nerves at the age of 17 with Jack Lee and future Grammy Award-winner Peter Case. The Nerves' hit song Hanging On The Telephone has been covered by Cat Power, Blondie and Def Leppard. The Nerves toured the U.S. and Canada and released their own albums without a record deal. The Nerves formed and recorded prior to the punk rock explosion during the late 1970s. The Nerves toured with The Ramones and have left a lasting impression as one of the first punk rock groups in history.
After The Nerves disbanded, Paul Collins formed The Beat, a high-energy rock group in the same style as The Nerves. With the help of Collins' friend Eddie Money, The Beat earned a record deal with CBS/Columbia, releasing two albums before moving on to Sony and releasing over ten albums worldwide.
Today, The Beat continue to tour and record new material, playing hundreds of concerts each year in U.S., Japan, Canada, UK, Spain, Italy, France, Sweden and throughout Europe.
